Governance for SW regional SEND work.

Partners coming together to drive improvement work in the region

Overview

The aim of this group is to bring together key partners to steer regional work and to create a governance structure for SEND work in the region. The steering group will have oversight of regional data, the SW regional SEND plan and the work of partners. It will have a focus of supporting improvement and sharing better practice across the region. It will set strategic direction and will have a solution focussed, action orientation.

The steering group will update the South West Association of Directors of Childrens Service’s (ADCS) and the Sector Led Improvement Group (SLIP).

Membership

The composition of the group may be subject change in the near future. At present the groups consists of:

The Director of Children’s Services with regional responsibility for SEND

The regional SEND Co ordinator

Representatives from the SW SEND network

Representatives from other key groups such as the SW Principal educational Psychology group, SW parent carer forum lead, NHS England DFE regional leads.

Terms of Reference

The group aims to:

  • bring together a core group of SEND Leads (including parents, carers and young people leads) and representatives of interested regional groups to ensure a regional SEND set of priorities and plan of action is devised, implemented, reviewed, and shared.
  • link in with the implementation of the Regional Improvement Plan.
  • share areas of better practice across the region.  
  • connect with additional network groups to support Sector Led Improvement workstreams utilising other groups such as the Quality Assurance Leads, Assistant directors, Principal Social Workers etc.
  • advise South West Association of Directors of Childrens Services of any major development, practice or procedural issues which may require an integrated regional response.
  • report financial information to the regional Improvement and Innovation Alliance Group, South West Association of Directors of Childrens DCS and Sector Led improvement (there will be DFE representation on these groups).

Meeting Schedule

The group have agreed to meet four times a year virtually although this is subject to review.

In the first year 6 meetings will be held (one meeting every 8 weeks to set up the group and agree Terms of reference and agree draft priorities and improvement plan.

Meetings are scheduled for:

15th January 2024 11:00 – 12:30

11th of March 2024 14:00 – 15:30

6th of May 2024 11:00 to 12:30

1st July 2024 11:00- 12:30
